It’s official – fall is here. There’s a few reason it’s our favorite season: Halloween, holidays, Black Friday – but most importantly, we love chilly temperatures. Why? We’re self-acclaimed layer-ers (okay, we're making this word up, but we love a third piece – sometimes a fourth) Even when it’s hot outside, it’s hard to find us without some kind of layer on whether it be a chambray shirt, fatigue jacket or a signature denim jacket. In Texas though we have to keep some of these layers light or else we’re going to suffer from the ever-changing temperatures. On a trip to the Pearl Brewery we broke out some of these layers from the back of our closet – even if the low was 70, we felt it necessary to pop these on.
Our favorite layers
Excursion vests are a great way to add a third piece. You’ve probably seen them all over Pinterest and Instagram, and they come in an array of different fabrications and prints. A few years ago J.Crew did a vest in camouflage and it immediately sold out. Instead of fretting, I went with the men’s version and haven’t looked back. It’s a great way to add depth to your outfit, and its light enough to where you’re not fanning yourself and looking for the nearest AC vent if the temperatures rise. And what do I love more than a good layer? Print play. I paired the vest with my favorite dress of the moment in plaid from Old Navy. The two feel like a match made in Autumn-heaven, and was a comfortable enough outfit to explore the sights and sounds of a Saturday morning at the Pearl Brewery.
Patricio went for a more polished layer – A great (cotton) shawl cardigan in a caramel color. Cardigans are a great way to transition into fall because they’re easy and can really go with anything. He opted for his favorite crewneck, chinos and an easy loafer (also his favorite). The caramel color of this layer makes it a natural fit for the fall, and can be worn with a button up and jeans or even a pair of dress pants if you’re going for a high-low look. Shawl-cardigans have gained massive popularity during the colder months and you can find them in most of your favorite retailers. They’re classic, comfortable and not too heavy – which makes it a natural fit in your wardrobe if you can’t pull out your topcoats or parkas just yet.
While the weather has made it’s way back to the 90s around here, we’re still not putting our layering pieces in the back of the closet. We’re going to keep our fingers crossed for cooler temperatures for the rest of the season so we can have more chilly mornings snagging coffee at local and checking out the Farmer’s Market and other to-do’s around San Antonio.
So tell us – What’s your favorite layer? And what are you eyeing to add to your closet for the fall season?
