... For a few reasons. Who doesn’t love the Holiday season? Temperatures drop, the lights go up and there’s an excitement in the air. It also brings our favorite time – Layering season. Holidays can be tricky when it comes to how to dress. You probably have tons of Christmas parties, the office White Elephant exchange, Tacky-Sweater contests and then the pinnacle of Holiday dressing, NYE. Everyone’s minds gravitate towards the usual palette of green and red with sequins and furs, but outfitting doesn’t have to be that literal this month. Should you find yourself out and about, there are a ton of options that jazz up your wardrobe for Winter Wonderland, but don’t leave you looking like one of Santa’s elves.
One of our favorite places to be during the holiday season is at the Pearl Brewery. If the Pearl wasn’t wonderful on it’s own, it magnifies when all of the trees are lit up, with a giant Christmas tree on the Cured lawn. While we don’t get snow down here, we’ll take this as a consolation prize. The Pearl’s not only gorgeous, but they offer a myriad of different events for the holidays ending with a NYE set at Jazz TX. A full calendar of events can be found here (and you only have a week and a half more to enjoy – so get out there).
So what do you wear to these events? Easy. Keep it understated, but fun with the allusion of holiday. Plaids and tartans are a staple during the Holiday season, and J.Crew’s signature Stewart plaid shows up every year. Patricio snagged his button down in Stewart plaid and paired it with camel accents. Keeping your outfit’s effortless allows you to head from the office Christmas party to a night out seeing the lights followed by a late night cocktail without fuss. And a Stewart plaid feels like a special occasion print that doesn’t scream ‘Jingle Bells’.
One of my favorite pieces this season has been my J.Crew cape in Donegal wool. It’s the perfect accent, and I take advantage of every moment the temperatures drop to throw it on. Over a simple black dress and paired with a red pump, the cape acts as the perfect accessory to wrap a look together. And how could buffalo check not be sported during the holiday season? The red and black act as an enhancement against the simple outfit – and want to jazz up your scarf? Make it into a giant bow.
As we wrap up the year, Mint Society wishes you a Happy Holiday season and an even happier New Year. We’ll be drinking eggnog and hoping Santa drops off a life swap with the Kardashians for a week, but you can for sure find us out and about these next few weeks soaking up this wonderful time. So what are you Holiday staples? Fan of prints and sparkles? Or is keeping it understated in your will-house? Whether you’re on the naughty or nice list, keep it stylish (and don’t forget to leave Santa cookies and milk if you’re hoping he drops off the newest Apple watch for you).
