Upon seeing the Instagram post from Sugar & Cloth announcing her very own Color Wall, I knew that we needed to go, and we needed to go ASAP. My ASAP was literally the following Saturday, and knew exactly what I wanted to wear and what I envisioned this cotton-candy wonderland to look like. Getting Patricio on board meant that I asked if he had a certain color palette in his closet, and let him know we were going to be adventuring during the weekend. I had every intent of holding in the surprise until we strolled into Houston, but only lasted seven hours from deciding on doing this before breaking the news. Going to Houston meant we got to check off a few places on our list, so we planned for our day trip and embarked Saturday morning.
Road trips for us mean a stop at Buc-ees for brisket breakfast tacos and unnecessary snacks. If you don’t know what Buc-ees is just envision everything you’ve ever wanted on a road trip in one place and more - They even have Dippin Dots. Three hours passed quickly and we were en-route to an artsy part of Houston full of wall murals and warehouses. And as soon as we turned the corner of Canal St. we knew we were in the right place – There stood a wall of pastels surrounded by brick buildings. We were beat by a sweet family taking pictures of their one-year-old (who was not having it). We came equipped with a sprinkled donut, streamers and a steady dose of giddiness.
We wanted our looks to compliment the fantastic colors provided by Lowe’s, and throwing an inflatable pink donut around only made this experience even more magical. This wall is outside the future home of Headquarters, a creative space for small to medium businesses, coming in the fall. The Color Wall has already become an integral part of Houston, and we were soon joined by dozens of others coming to get their pictures in front of this whimsical creation. This will be one of our mainstays when passing through Houston, along with Patricio’s newest affinity for the menswear shop Manready Mercantile. Word of advice for shooting in front of a color wall? Don’t take yourself too seriously, and have a blast.
Rain or shine, this wall is sure to brighten your world.
