San Antonio went through a dark time this Spring. It was a time we had to for-go sitting outside and enjoying ‘crack fries’ and sangria by the San Antonio River while the Luxury shut down for renovations. I know, I know – that opener was more dramatic than it should have been, but if you’ve ever stepped on to the premises and enjoyed the delicacies the Luxury has to offer, you probably genuinely felt it was a dark time. The Luxury has been home to San Antonio’s most unique eats, serving up sandwiches with ingredients like buttermilk fried chicken, jalapeños, curried chicken, lamb and a menu full of other choices. Their fries are smothered in their special ketchup, aioli and topped with an egg.
The Luxury team outdid all expectations with their remodel. The shipping crates have been turned into great outdoor seating spaces, with coverage from the elements. They’ve put swinging chairs along the river, for a truly unique experience. They’re still as busy as ever – so ensure you’re going there with plenty of time to enjoy the food and the vibes.
We partook in the Crispy Chicken sandwich and the Curried Chicken Sandwich – both of which are some of the best The Luxury has to offer. The Crispy Chicken sandwich is battered to perfection with jalapeños, drizzled in a spicy, yet tangy sauces with slaw all on toast. This is truly the masterpiece of the Luxury, and you’ll be craving it time and time again (Twist – Patricio ordered the Curry chicken sandwich, and admitted three days later he was craving it after only two bites of mine). Don’t let that last sentence deter you from the Curried Chicken Sandwich though– this is a great take on the traditional classic. Cubes of curried chicken on a roll make this feel like an updated chicken salad sandwich.
The Luxury is accessible by foot, bike, car or an Uber (if you’re partaking in their bucket of beer or sangrias) and is a classic spot to spend a balmy summer afternoon at. You can expect to find us there on any afternoon we’re free this summer - and Texas perk? Our summer lasts until November.
