After a little bit of research about Dallas’ best hangouts, we stumbled upon The Simple Sol's Most Instagrammable Walls in Dallas – needless to say, we were in. After all, isn’t location everything? And after a peek at some of these hotspots, we were ready to scour the city with just a picture and a vague caption about where to find it. Sounds like an adventure, right? Would be if Dallas wasn’t one of the most insane cities to drive in – in fact, Dallas is so aggressive with their driving, we coined a sharp turn off a highway as “Pulling a Dallas”. Please message us if you can attest to this behavior. Dallas’ streets are topsy-turvy, and the highways intertwine in a way to make taking an exit a dangerous game of a pseudo-Russian Roulette. After a little bit more research, we found out the wonderful ‘Good Morning Dallas’ mural was located at Dallas Contemporary and decided to make an event out of it.
Dallas Contemporary is a completely donation-based museum that hosts’ exhibits from some of the world’s best contemporary artists. We’ve been to many museums, but this was one of those times where you truly felt that you were in a gallery that required you to transcend your traditional views on the world (How could you not starting at a life-size confetti oil painting?) We went on a Sunday afternoon, so we were lucky that we were some of the first in the building and could explore without distraction. Currently the museum is hosting the works of Helmut Lang, Paola Pivi and Dan Colen. Each of these artists vastly different from the next, whether it was sheepskin dipped in tar made into life-size canvas’ or the to-scale, brightly colored polar bears – We were in art heaven.
Side-note – it’s officially summer and Dallas felt like it was very, very close to the sun. We tried to go with pieces that withstood the inferno we encountered every time we left air-conditioning. Patricio opted for lights – a striped tee, light-washed jeans and his Stan Smiths. Urban Outfitters has some great basics right now for the summer, which is where he snagged the white ball cap that literally could go with any piece in your summer style. I’ve been drawn to Old Navy lately for their warm-weather classics – I also love telling people “Oh this? It was $4.99”. But in true hi-low fashion, I opted for my favorite glitter stiletto from J.Crew. They were both great exploring outfits, especially when you have to get up-close and personal with a polar bear or 20ft inflatable bridge. These three exhibits are only on display until August 21st, so grab a pal and maybe call and Uber so you don’t have to risk your life to get there.
