The Michelada is to San Antonio what the Cosmopolitan was to Sex and the City (hope you all still get that reference) – and everyone has their own recipe for this backyard mainstay. Don Chelada makes your favorite drink even easier with their to-go cups and michelada mix. Don Chelada is a company located in San Antonio, so you can feel good if you’re trying to support local businesses – You can find their products in Krogers, Wal-Mart and 7-11 – but their list continues to grow. We wanted to try their products in preparation for Summer. Our ingredients for the perfect michelada is listed below!
Don Chelada’s Michelada Mix
Beer of your choosing
(As Texan’s we went with Shiner)
(You can grab the one in your bag, swag)
First rim your glasses with a lime slice. Pour about a tablespoon of chili powder into a shallow saucer and rim the ends of your glasses generously. Squeeze the juice of one lime and empty into each glass. Add half a cup of the michelada mix into the glasses. Top off with your favorite beer and then add a couple drops of your hot sauce for a kick. Stir – and there you are! If you need more spice, add in a few more drops of hot sauce. Want a little more sour – squeeze another lime. The beauty of the Don Chelada mix is that you can make this drink entirely your own.
But for a true no-fuss, no-worry cocktail the Don Chelada cups are the way to go. These are great to throw in the cooler with a twelve pack and head to the pool, beach or baseball games. These cups are rimmed with spices (enough for two beers) and a packet of their special mix inside. It’s as simple as a tear and a pour and you have the easiest drink of the summer. The best part? They come in three flavors – Original, Lime and Spicy. If you know Patricio and I, you’ll know which one was our favorite.
Don Chelada should be on your bar cart moving forward. Make yourself a michelada to serve atyour next taco night or throw the Don Chelada cups in your weekender bag to be prepped for a good time wherever you travel this summer. You can count us in for making Don Chelada one of our summertime necessities. As always, drink responsibly!
