Let’s rewind back in March when I was dreading going to El Cosmico for a night under the cosmos. Literally, dreading it. Patricio calmed me and said we’d just be there for a night and then we could go – Who knew that the next day you’d find me begging the poor girl at the front-desk if there were any openings so we could stay an extra night. That time-around we snagged a Safari Tent (thinking I booked a teepee… how wrong I was), but it was a darling experience with a comfortable bed and the cutest accents – ala the tin chandelier that hung from the ceiling. Ever since that trip, we’ve been counting down the days until we would be back on the property.
El Cosmico has become such a destination that most of the teepees and trailers are booked months in advance. No, definitely not exaggerating – months. I began my search immediately after knowing we were going back and one day was lucky enough to stumble upon an opening for The Princess.
The trailers come equipped based around the one you choose – and they all have different personalities that match their names. The Princess came with an outdoor shower, a mini kitchenette and our own bathroom – which may seem like a weird thing to point out, but after our last stay we were glad to not wander through the desert terrain at 1 in the morning. You could do breakfast, lunch and dinner here and never have to leave the property if you wanted – and El Cosmico’s provision shop has an assortment of spirits to enjoy the night.
Round two was just as magical. We spent most of the evening hanging around in hammocks and meeting two teachers from Austin who happened to be on the Chinati tour with us. We even impromptu decided after being blown away by the night sky to make a trek back out to Prada Marfa at 12:00AM. As always our time at El Cosmico ended too soon, but we’re never far away from our next trip there (Trans-Pecos, anyone?) Do yourself a favor and plan a trip out here immediately. Nothing can top the sight of a clear sky and a peak at the Milky Way, or the serenity of the grounds. El Cosmico is truly a magical place and it’s no wonder many are choosing to spend their vacations here. We’re pumped to be back in September – and even though we’re going to have to rough it in a tent, we’re sure to be in for another adventure.
